Like let's say you drew something in pencil, you scanned it but you want it to be blue instead.

How would you do it?

I want it to be just the way it was before but a different color.

This is actually pretty simple if the sketches are on a blank piece of paper.

  1. Switch to the Magic Wand Tool (W)
    • Set a relatively low tolerance (10-30)
    • Make sure Contiguous is unchecked
  2. Click on the background
    • this will select the background but not the sketch
  3. Inverse the selection (Ctrl + Shift + I)
  4. Create a new layer with the selection (Ctrl + Shift + J)
  5. if colored ink was used, convert the layer to grayscale (Ctrl + Shift + U)
  6. Add a color overlay to the layer (Layer > Layer Style > Color Overlay...)
    • I reduced the opacity to about 45%.
