I have this image.

How do I put it on top of an image (a photo of a face as a mustache or eye brow, for example) and make it so that only the black portion shows and the white areas are transparent so that the person 's face shows through the white areas but not the black areas? I also want the gray areas to be semi-transparent.

The link you provided is a grayscale image so it can be used as a brush without any changes.

  1. Open the image
  2. Click Edit > Define Brush Preset...
  3. Name the brush and click Ok

The brush will now appear as the last brush in the brush drop down. It will remain available even after you close Photoshop.
